Central Bank of Montenegro Awarded Zero Waste Business Certificate
06/02/2026
The CBCG has been awarded the international Zero Waste Business certificate, confirming its commitment to sustainable resource management and the systematic reduction of waste through organisational processes and day-to-day operations.
Based on an independent external assessment of compliance with the required criteria, the certificate was awarded by Mission Zero Academy as part of Zero Waste Europe (ZWE), the leading European network in the field of zero waste practices.
The CBCG Governor Irena Radović noted that this recognition confirms the CBCG’s consistent approach to sustainable business practices.
“This recognition confirms that the CBCG does not view sustainability as a standalone initiative, but as an integral part of its long-term development strategy. In addition to safeguarding financial stability, our responsibility is to contribute to building a responsible, resilient and environmentally sustainable society, in line with best European practices.”
The CBCG is the first European central bank and the first institution in Montenegro to receive the Zero Waste Business certificate under this programme, confirming its commitment to integrating sustainable development principles into its operations and institutional policies.
The certification process involved a systematic approach to the application of zero waste principles and was implemented with expert and mentoring support from Zero Waste Montenegro. This included improvements to procedures, public procurement and working practices and the implementation of measures for waste prevention and reduction, including reduced use of single-use plastics, improved waste management and the digitalisation of business processes.
Committed to promoting sustainable development and environmental protection, in addition to fostering responsible behaviour within its own activities and among its employees, the CBCG actively develops partnerships and projects with stakeholders who share the same vision. In this context, particular emphasis is placed on its participation in the “Protect to be Protected” project implemented in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro and the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation.
By obtaining the Zero Waste Business certificate, the CBCG reaffirms its commitment to responsible and sustainable operations, and its readiness to continue improving practices that contribute to environmental protection and long-term sustainable development, in line with European standards.
