Instant Payments (TIPS Clone)
On 20 July 2026, the Central Bank of Montenegro introduced EU instant payments into the domestic payment system through the TIPS Clone system, in cooperation with the Bank of Italy, under the auspices of the European Central Bank and with the support of the World Bank.
Instant payments enable the transfer of funds from one account to another within seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and public holidays (24/7/365).
The introduction of the TIPS Clone system marks another important step in the Central Bank's ongoing efforts to modernize the national payment system and align Montenegro's payment infrastructure with European standards.
