On the second day of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, the Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), Irena Radović, held a meeting with the President of the De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), Olaf Sleijpen.
The Governor Radović expressed her gratitude to President Sleijpen for the continued support, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with such a renowned Eurosystem central bank that has a long-standing tradition of professional excellence and a strong reputation in the fields of monetary policy, financial stability, and corporate governance.
Particular attention was given to the importance of the Needs Assessment project that is being carried out by De Nederlandsche Bank in partnership with the National Bank of Belgium. The aim of the project is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the CBCG’s organisational alignment with the standards of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the Eurosystem. The project will result in concrete recommendations and a roadmap for their implementation, ensuring that the CBCG is fully prepared in regulatory, institutional, and organizational terms for future membership in the ESCB upon Montenegro’s accession to the European Union.
The key elements of future cooperation were defined during the initial mission held in June this year, including the project objectives and expectations, governance framework, technical approach, and communication channels, all of which will enable efficient implementation of the planned activities.
The Governor Radović highlighted that cooperation with De Nederlandsche Bank is of exceptional importance for the CBCG, as it enables knowledge and experience exchange with one of the leading institutions in the Eurosystem, directly contributing to the strengthening of the CBCG’s institutional capacities and its role in the EU integration process.
The parties also exchanged views on current economic and monetary developments, as well as on shared priorities in enhancing the resilience of the financial system and promoting good governance in central banks.
The Vice Governor of the CBCG, Zorica Kalezić, and the Executive Board Member of De Nederlandsche Bank, Marc Roovers, also attended the meeting.
