Parliament Appoints New CBCG Vice-Governors

17/11/2025

The Parliament of Montenegro today appointed Gordana Kalezić and Milan Remiković as CBCG Vice-Governors, upon the proposal of the Governor Irena Radović.

Today’s appointments ensure the conditions for the unhindered execution of the CBCG’s competences and the further strengthening of its role in safeguarding financial stability. The Vice-Governors play a key role in managing and overseeing individual areas of the CBCG’s work, ensuring the professional, independent, and efficient functioning of the institution. They are also, in accordance with the Central Bank of Montenegro Law, members of the CBCG Council – the institution’s highest governing body.

Recognising the importance of the CBCG’s full functionality and institutional stability, MPs unanimously voted for the proposed candidates, thereby contributing strongly to the institutional strengthening of the CBCG and its personal independence, as well as to the fulfilment of obligations arising from the negotiation process with the European Union. With this, Montenegro has reaffirmed its commitment to European values, the rule of law, and the strengthening of regulatory independence.

Both Vice-Governors are experienced professionals who, as long-standing employees of the CBCG, lead key reforms in Montenegro’s financial sector, working closely with European institutions and the central banks of the Eurosystem.

Gordana Kalezić is a long-standing expert in the field of anti-money laundering, prevention of terrorist financing, and client protection. She has been working at the CBCG since 2019, where she served as Directorate for Supervision of AML/CFT Compliance and the Financial and Credit Institutions Consumer Protection. Previously, she held managerial positions at the Administration for the Prevention of Money Laundering and in the banking sector. She is the only expert from Montenegro engaged by MONEYVAL to assess other countries’ compliance with FATF standards. She makes a key contribution to fulfilling the obligations necessary for the closure of Negotiating Chapter 4 – Free Movement of Capital.

Milan Remiković has built his entire professional career at the CBCG since 2007, advancing from inspector to Supervision Department Director. He specialised in the resolution of credit institutions and led the establishment of this function within the CBCG in accordance with European rules. Under his leadership, a Cooperation Agreement was signed with the EU Single Resolution Board – a key body of the Banking Union. He participated in drafting numerous laws and by-laws in the field of supervision and resolution. He plays a key role in meeting the obligations required for the closure of Negotiating Chapter 9 – Financial Services.

The knowledge, experience, and professional integrity of the newly appointed Vice-Governors will contribute strongly to the further strengthening of the CBCG, its efficient functioning, and the acceleration of Montenegro’s progress towards membership in the European Union and the Eurosystem.
