The Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), Irena Radović, met with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, Caroline Tissot, and members of her team.
During the meeting, they discussed key priorities and initiatives which the CBCG implements to strengthen financial stability, improve the regulatory framework and modernise the payment system. In this context, Governor Radović highlighted that the CBCG has fully implemented its obligations from the pre-accession process, achieving 100 per cent fulfilment of assigned tasks, thereby contributing strongly to Montenegro’s overall progress in negotiations with the European Union, particularly within the economic chapters. It was especially emphasised that significant progress has been made in aligning the regulatory and supervisory framework with the EU regulations and standards, alongside the strengthening of the CBCG’s institutional capacities.
The Governor also presented CBCG activities aimed at the green transition and the implementation of ESG standards, the promotion of gender and financial inclusion, the strengthening of financial literacy, and the digital transformation of the financial system.
The interlocutors exchanged views on key development challenges and opportunities for Montenegro, jointly assessing that sustainability, digitalisation and financial inclusion represent important prerequisites for sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development.
At the end of the meeting, Governor Radović expressed her gratitude to the United Nations system for its continuous cooperation and support to reform and development processes in Montenegro.
UN Resident Coordinator Caroline Tissot commended the CBCG’s, congratulated it on its accomplishments, and confirmed the readiness of the United Nations system to continue supporting Montenegro’s defined development priorities, including reforms contributing to the successful continuation of the European integration process and alignment with European Union standards.
