CBCG Extends the Payment System’s Working Hours: Payments until 7:30/8 p.m. on the Account on the Same Day

18/08/2025

From today, the working hours of the CBCG payment system are extended until 8:00 p.m. This means that money payments made on weekdays until 7:30 p.m. (up to 1,000 euros) or 8:00 p.m. (for amounts exceeding 1,000 euros) will be processed and available on the recipient's account on the same day.

This novelty was introduced on based on the Decision Amending the Operating Rules of the Central Bank of Montenegro Payment System, which the Council of the Central Bank of Montenegro adopted on 9 July 2025 with the aim of increasing the efficiency, speed and availability of payment services for citizens and the economy. The new provisions, foreseen by the Decision Amending the Operating Rules of the Central Bank of Montenegro Payment System (OGM No. 74/25), include:

  • Extending the working hours of the RTGS system (Real-Time Gross Settlement), whereby payments exceeding 1,000 euros effected by 8:00 p.m. on weekdays will be immediately credited to the recipient's account;
  • Extending the operation of the DNS system (Deferred Net Settlement) for payments up to 1,000 euros and introducing six daily clearing cycles instead of the previous three, thanks to which this type of payment, effected by 7:30 p.m. on the same day, will reach the recipient's account;

The aforementioned changes bring a number of benefits: citizens will have faster access to paid funds, the economy will be able to plan and fulfill obligations more efficiently, while sectors such as tourism and electronic commerce will have a faster inflow of funds.

Extending the payment system’s working hours is part of a broader project of modernizing Montenegro’s payment systems, which aligns the domestic payment system with European Union standards and best international practices both regulatory and operationally.

In the next phase of modernization starting from 20 October 2025, the CBCG will extend the operation of the payment system to weekends and public holidays, which represents an additional 118 days of operation of the payment system per year, which will ensure continuous processing of payment transactions throughout the year.

The aforementioned activities represent a significant step towards the introduction of the TIPS Clone system. Owing to this, from July 2026, citizens and the economy will be able to send and receive payments in real time, anytime and from anywhere, 24/7/365.

CBCG continues to improve the payment infrastructure, in accordance with the needs of users and technological trends, while ensuring the efficiency and reliability of the payment system.
