First Savings for Babies Born During Savings Week Increased to 2,000 euros
31/10/2025
In cooperation with commercial banks, the CBCG will grant all babies born between 31 October and 6 November a first savings deposit of 2,000 euros. This joint savings gift, the amount of which has been doubled this year, represents a long-standing symbol of the “Savings Week” campaign, carried out for the 22nd consecutive year under the slogan “The First Step Towards a Secure Future”, aimed at encouraging a culture of saving from the earliest age.
Continuing this tradition of joint effort, the CBCG Governor Irena Radović and the chairpersons of the management boards of commercial banks signed the Agreement on Implementing the Savings Week today, highlighting the initiative as an important example of long-term partnership aimed at promoting savings and social responsibility.
CBCG Governor Dr Irena Radović stated that the Agreement represents a shared belief that investing in children means investing in a safer, more stable, and more prosperous future for the whole society, and that the Savings Week campaign offers symbolic support to parents and newborns in Montenegro.
“Campaigns such as Savings Week are part of our broader mission – to promote financial literacy and inclusion. Today, in times of rapid technological and economic change, financial literacy is a prerequisite for personal and social stability, and saving is its first and most important lesson. Therefore, together with its partners, the CBCG will continue to develop programmes encouraging financial literacy and a responsible attitude towards money,” concluded Governor Radović.
According to the signed agreement, the CBCG and the commercial bank where parents open a savings account will each deposit 1,000 euros for the newborn. The total amount of 2,000 euros will be deposited for one year, after which parents may withdraw the money or reinvest it. Parents may open a savings book by 31 March 2026 at any commercial bank by presenting the ID cards of both parents and the child’s birth certificate.
During the previous period, almost 2,800 children in Montenegro have received their first savings through this campaign, with a total of around 1.2 million euros allocated for this purpose.
In addition to gifts for newborns, during the „Savings Week“, the CBCG will also traditionally organise a series of joint educational workshops for preschoolers and lectures for primary and secondary school pupils across Montenegro, to raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy, responsible money management, and developing sound financial habits from an early age.
In this context, within the joint project of the CBCG, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, and the Innovation Fund of Montenegro, the national robotics competition for children “RoboFin” that brings together 217 primary school pupils from all over Montenegro will be held on 1 November.
On this occasion, together with the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Anđela Jakšić Stojanović, Governor Radović will speak with the young robotics enthusiasts about the importance of knowledge, innovation, and responsible financial behaviour as key prerequisites for success in modern society, and will present medals to the competition winners. The project “Robotics for the Youngest” is just one of several initiatives through which the CBCG, by connecting knowledge, technology, and financial education, contributes to the development of children’s digital and innovative skills – the foundation of their future financial and social empowerment.
