Reaction concerning the treatment of documentation concerning the Prva Bank’s operations
17/07/2023
Due to the tendentious and layman interpretation of the actions of the Central Bank of Montenegro regarding a part of the documentation in its possession, and for the purpose of objectively informing the public and in accordance with the Media Law (OGRM 51/02, 62/02 and OGM 82 /20) and the Code of Journalists of Montenegro, based on the allegations published in the daily newspaper “Dan” on 17 July 2023 in the text titled “They also destroyed the documentation on the operations of Prva Banka?”, we give the following
REACTION
The Central Bank does not destroy documentation on the operations of banks in Montenegro, and this includes Prva banka Crne Gore AD Podgorica, so it is available for inspection by third parties in accordance with the law. Disclosure of annual financial statements with an external auditor's report has begun with the 2011 annual financial statements, in accordance with the regulation governing banking operations.
Therefore, we point out the need for a more responsible and fact-based approach when dealing with topics related to the Central Bank`s relationship with banks in Montenegro and its authority and which may serve for drawing conclusions by persons who possess the necessary knowledge to interpret them. The Central Bank remains open for cooperation and any necessary clarifications.
