Statistics of the Central Bank of Montenegro Payment System

Indicators of performed payment transactions in the Payment System of the Central Bank of Montenegro in July 20261


During 31 working days in July 2026, a total of 1,523,501 payment orders were effected through the CBCG Payment System. Of this number 561,125 orders or 36.83% were performed in the RTGS system and the remaining 962,376 or 63.17% orders related to the DNS system.


The value of performed payment transactions in RTGS system and DNS system amounted to 2.6 billion euros, out of which 2.33 billion euros (89.42%) was the value of the payment transactions performed through the RTGS system, while 275.04 million euros (10.58%) were performed in the DNS system.


The average daily volume of the performed payment transactions through both RTGS system and DNS system, presented through the number of orders, amounted to 49,145 orders, while the average daily value of payment transactions amounted to 83.89 million euros.


During 18,235 minutes of production2 for 31 working days in July 2026, there were no delays in system operations, thus the availability of RTGS system and DNS system was 100%.

On 20 July, another national payment system officially began operating – the Payment System for Instant Credit Transfer (IPS – Instant Payment System).


The IPS system enables the transfer of funds within a few seconds, 24/7/365, including weekends, public and religious holidays.


The IPS system can execute instant credit transfers for payment orders amounting to less than 3,000.00 euros.


All 11 banks in Montenegro are the participants in the IPS system.


During July, 56,678 orders were successfuly processed in the IPS system, with a total value of 21.5 million euros.


Since its official launch, the IPS system has been continuously and uninterruptedly available with full availability throughout all 12 days of July.

1 Note: Since January 2018, the Central Bank of Montenegro publishes data on performed national payment transactions in the CBCG Payment System (RTGS system and DNS system).


  • Until 31 December 2017, the collection of data on internal (interbank) payment transactions was carried out in accordance with the Decision on Reports to be Submitted to the Central Bank of Montenegro (OGM 64/12).

  • Decision on Reporting to the Central Bank of Montenegro (OGM 82/17) specifies that data on payment transactions are to be collected on quarterly basis.

Performed payment transactions in the Payment System of the Central Bank of Montenegro in 2024


During 253 working days or 137,885 minutes of production in 2024, there were 14,614,125 orders performed in the Payment System of the Central Bank of Montenegro (RTGS system and DNS system), of which 5,659,486 (38.73%) through the RTGS system, while 8,954,639 orders (61.27%) were performed through DNS system.


The value of performed payment transactions in the Payment System of the Central Bank of Montenegro (RTGS system and DNS system), amounted to 24.7 billion Euros, of which 23.3 billion Euros (94.16%) were performed through the RTGS system, while 1.4 billion Euros (5.84%) were performed through DNS system.
